“The belt makes the man was my bold proclamation in the 1990s, and to this day, I firmly stand by it—even if watchmakers beg to differ.”
02. About The Book, The Art of Buckles
Art and Business
While most men’s jewelry is limited to wedding rings, watches, cufflinks, belts, and buckles, it’s the belt and buckle that truly take center stage in a man’s wardrobe. Perfectly positioned at the core of any outfit, the belt and buckle are, in my opinion, the most indispensable elements in today’s fashion landscape. From my earliest days as a jewelry maker, I’ve always been captivated by the practicality and personal expression that buckles offer. Crafted from silver, brass, pewter, or even solid gold, a buckle narrates the unique story of its wearer.
The perfect buckle and belt, whether subtle or ornate, complete a look and convey a message. Be it elastic, Velcro, or even a belt-free ensemble, it’s the ultimate declaration: “This is who I am!” Although women enjoy a plethora of clothing options, a beautifully designed belt—whether mounted on leather, rubber, or luxurious alligator skin—undeniably leaves an impact. Indeed, “The Belt Makes the Man,” and I’m proud to have crafted countless buckles that enable men to express their individuality and make a statement with every step.
